Upcoming ASAF webinar "Mobility Programmes in Africa, challenges and opportunities"
On 28th of February 2022 from 4:00 - 5:00 pm (CET) we will talk online about the mobility of African students, the impact of Covid-19 and the way ahead. Deadline for application for the webinar is 27.02.2022 at midnight (CET).
The two years of the Covid-19 crisis have brought some impact on the mobility of African students within and outside the continent. The continent has a mobility rate twice as high as the world average and its student population is growing rapidly.
After the first months of the pandemic, when students everywhere were placed under house arrest glued to their computer screens, departures resumed as borders, universities and vaccinations reopened. France, by far the number one destination for young Africans since it welcomes a third of them, saw an average increase of 16.5% in “incoming” in 2021, according to figures from Campus France.
In fact, a third of African student mobility takes place within the continent itself. Africa-Africa exchanges concern at least 180,000 young people each year, according to UNESCO, and surely more, given the fact that demographic heavyweights such as Egypt, Ethiopia and Angola communicate little data.
