Renewed partnership between EU and Southern Neighbourhood
On 09 February 2021, the European Commission published a Joint Communication that proposes a new, ambitious, and innovative Agenda for the Mediterranean in order to further strengthen the partnership between the European Union and its Southern Neighbourhood partners.
To relaunch and strengthen the strategic partnership between the European Union and its Southern Neighbourhood partners, the European Commission and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy have adopted a new and ambitious Agenda for the Mediterranean.
Among other things, the Joint Communication: Renewed partnership with the Southern Neighbourhood - A new agenda for the Mediterranean (published on 09 February by the European Commission) refers to Erasmus+ and the importance to facilitate access to EU programmes for its Southern partners:
“Opening up and facilitating access to EU programmes for our Southern Partners (…) will be crucial. In this context, the Southern Mediterranean will remain a priority region under the Erasmus+ programme. Over the 2021-2027 period under Erasmus+, young people will benefit from new capacity building opportunities in the fields of vocational education and training, sport and digital education and youth. The EU will aim to better spread the benefits of Erasmus+ across the region …” (Joint Communication, p.5)
