Open Call for Candidates: ASAF Board Elections 2024

ASAF invites eligible members to consider standing for the upcoming Board elections, where nine members will be elected to guide the forum for the next two years. All ordinary ASAF members are eligible to stand and be voted onto the Board. This is your chance to make a lasting impact on the future of ASAF.

We are excited to announce the Open Call for candidates for the upcoming ASAF Board election. The Board is responsible for coordinating the general functioning of ASAF, coordinating the Task Forces, preparing the Meetings of Members (MoM), executing decisions of the Meeting of Members and contributing to the fruitful development of ASAF. The Board represents ASAF both continentally and globally, serving as the primary point of contact with the European Union and African Union. The Board is composed of nine elected members who serve a term of two years, with the possibility of re-election for one additional term. 

You have three weeks to submit your application. To apply, just click the link below and fill out the online form. After the deadline, the Erasmus+ Support Service Team will review your application to make sure it meets the criteria, and they will alert candidates within three weeks on whether they are eligible to stand for an ASAF Board position.

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible to stand, candidates must be ordinary members of ASAF, and must provide the following information: 

  • Gender 

  • Mobility Programme - You can find more information on this here  

  • Country of Nationality  

  • African Region the applicant affiliates with (as defined by the African Union, You can find more information on this here 

  • Primary Language (French or English) 

  • Your motivation: why you are standing for this position, what you want to achieve, etc 

Election Process 

The election process is governed by the ASAF Statutes and Rules of Procedure, which were approved by the ASAF members, and you are encouraged to read these documents carefully before you apply. The ASAF Statutes and Rules of Procedure can be found here.

Below is an outline of the Board election process: 

  1. Open Call for Candidates: The election is announced publicly, and interested eligible candidates are invited to submit their applications. You will have three weeks to submit your application. 
  2. Candidates Eligibility Review: The Erasmus+ support service team will assess the eligibility of each application, based on the provided information. This review will take place over a three-week period. 
  3. Campaigning: Eligible candidates will have two weeks to campaign and promote their candidacy. Candidates can use various methods to reach out to the members, including the ASAF Online Community, social media channels, and organising Town Hall calls. 
  4. Elections: The voting process will be open for one week in the ASAF Online Community. Voting is anonymous, and members will vote for candidates in each of the five African Regions as defined by the African Union. 
  5. Results: The election results will be posted within 24 hours after the voting period closes. 

Important Dates 

  • Open Call for Candidates: 10th September 2024  

  • Candidates Eligibility Review: 1st October 2024  

  • Campaigning Period: 22nd October 2024  

  • Election Week: 5th November 2024  

  • Results Announcement: 13th November 2024  

The election will be held in the Online Community, which will be open for seven (7) days, closing on Tuesday, 12th November at 7:00 PM CEST
