Exchange between ASAF and Delegation of the EU to Burkina Faso
On 20 September 2024, the Ambassador of the European Union to Burkina Faso, Daniel Aristi Gaztelumendi, met with former European Union scholarship holders from the the African Students and Alumni Forum (ASAF).
The meeting between the Ambassador of the European Union to Burkina Faso, Daniel Aristi, and ASAF allowed former recipients of EU-funded scholarships to tell the ambassador about the positive impact these scholarships have had on their academic and professional journeys. From Cadiz in Spain to Ndjamena in Chad, via Cotonou in Benin and Abidjan in Côte d'Ivoire, these exchanges have helped alumni to enrich their lives and discover other cultures.
Keeping the benefits of international mobility in mind, ASAF called on the European diplomat to ensure that the EU continues to promote Erasmus+ opportunities and the intra-Africa academic mobility programme, so that these opportunities are more visible in Burkina Faso and benefit students and professionals more.
Mr Aristi welcomed this feedback and explained how the EU Delegation was working on better dissemination of its various scholarship and mobility programmes. To this end, he highlighted the recent appointment of an Erasmus + focal point at the Joseph-Ki Zerbo University, and the first ‘Campus Team Europe’ fair held in 2022 to present European scholarship opportunities. He announced that the second edition will take place in November 2024.
Since 2022, 86 students and university staff from Burkina Faso have gone on to study in Europe (Germany, Belgium, Spain, France, Italy, Poland, etc.) and Africa.
The Erasmus programme also supported the launch of the laboratory and Certificate in Molecular Epidemiology of Antimicrobial Resistance at Joseph Ki-Zerbo University.
