ASAF at the forefront of inclusive education
ASAF creates awareness about Erasmus+ in Kaduna, Nigeria. Cosmas Kombat and Felix Kwabena Donkor, members of ASAF interim board, gave a presentation on 3rd April, 2022 on the ASAF mobility programmes and Erasmus+ opportunities for students, staff, and educational institutions as part of a promotion event.
Enhancing access to quality education is a core aspect of the sustainable development goals (SDG4) with the goal of ensuring equal access for both males and females to technical, vocational and tertiary education that is of good affordability and quality. However, this goal is often compromised socio-economic factors. Insecurity is one such challenge that impedes access to quality education. For example, education providers are forced to abandon insecure locations or reluctant to provide education in such areas. This situation also further worsens the plight of female education. Nevertheless, it has been the aim of ASAF to make education accessible to people in remote and insecure areas.
Kaduna State in Northern Nigeria has received a lot of bad press in recent times due to mounting insecurity caused by increased terrorist activities including kidnappings and attacks on education institutions. The Kaduna State House in a quest to improve access to education for its constituents, invited ASAF to help create awareness on the Erasmus scholarship programmes for prospective staff and students. Thus, on Sunday 3rd April, two ASAF interim board members Cosmas Kombat (Board liaison for Internal Affairs) and Felix Kwabena Donkor (Interim Board President) gave a presentation on the ASAF mobility programmes and Erasmus+ opportunities for students, staff, and educational institutions as part of a promotion event in Kaduna. The presentation was at the request of Hon. Suleiman Ibrahim Dabo member Kaduna State House of Assembly Zaria, Nigeria. The very excited audience posed interesting questions about the Intra-ACP, Nyerere, Intra-Africa scholarship schemes and other matters relating to ASAF, which were addressed by the ASAF board members.
